Dan, I have been experiencing with all sorts of oils for the past year. The best results with a piece of iron was using my brick outdoor oven at 900 degrees. I used flax seed oil and the results...

Funny you should mention temperature Dan. Not sure at what temperature it freezes. But as has been mentioned a few times on this forum....the degree of heat in the lye tub will greatly determine...

Thanks Sharon. Don't plan on cooking on it. This is one of the few "rare" ones that I will probably sell. Seasoned it with organic grape seed oil. Seems to work best for giving iron a nice sheen!!

I agree with you Rob. I too made a lot of "cast iron" mistakes" due to bad internet and other collector sites advise. As a new collector a couple of years ago I just wanted to "rush" the process...
