Re: Removing Carbon
That really is what works I guess, I just did that last night. Also, for big patches a razor blade works well if you try to shave it off. Though I broke two blades

Re: Unknown Unmarked? Griswold?
I was wondering about that font.
It has a side gate mark between the handle and left pour spout. Well if it's a copy, they didn't do a bad job.

Unknown Unmarked? Griswold?
What might this skillet be? I'm guessing it might be an unmarked Griswold just based on features. Maybe somebody else had a better idea. I just got it mostly cleaned up

Re: Removing Carbon
Thank you!
I may have to do that, though I was wanting a lye tank at some point anyways, it may have to sit longer with the weather the way it is.
Now I've got two skillets in this situation

Removing Carbon
What's the best way to remove carbon buildup without too much elbow grease?
I'm on a skillet that really had it caked on and I've got about 1/3 of the underside that just doesn't want to come off...

Re: Identifying Via Features
I usually end up forgetting about checking the tone unless I'm spending $20 or more and have to think on it. My one Erie skillet has a tiny crack by the handle, but it still sounds like a bell.
I...

Identifying Via Features
I was wondering who else makes educated guesses when looking at crudded up cast iron? This weekend I got two skillets, a #6 and a #3. When looking I always look at pour spouts first when thumbing...

Spider Skillet? Camp Oven Skillet?
Does anybody have any information on this? I've seen ones that are gate marked, but they always had a crack. I finally found one without a crack, but it doesn't have a gate mark.
It's a shallow...

Re: Don't Show, Just Tell
1. What is the first piece of cast iron cookware you actually owned?
A modern make of a lodge #10 (2017 or 2018)
2. Do you consider yourself more a collector, a user, or both?
Both, kinda...

Re: Two Griswolds in One Weekend
Thanks guys.
It has, it's done great with supper and breakfast this this morning. It does have a tiny crack by the handle, but it still sounds like a bell.

Re: Why I Love Wapaks....
I don't have a Wapak skillet yet unfortunately.
I also really like the single notch lodge. I have a #6, #8, and a hammered Dutch oven that I love, they cook really well and are nice and light.

Re: Griswold Waffle Iron?
Thanks!
Those are my favorite, it's almost like a surprise as your cleaning it.
I'm sure you'll happen into one, it took a lot of patience on my end.

Re: Griswold Waffle Iron?
That's true, one side might've broke and they may have found a replacement, but it would've been long ago.
Attached image is what it looked like when I got it.

Re: Griswold Waffle Iron?
Thank you!
Good to know it's all Griswold, just a mismatched paddle. Well, I'll be seasoning it tonight hopefully and I can start making waffles. Maybe I can happen into the correct paddle one day.

Griswold Waffle Iron?
Just recently got this waffle iron down to bare iron, the base says Griswold and the paddles are 1908 and the right style, but no logo.
