Re: Lets play Dougs favorite game......

Thanks for the comments, Doug. I would agree with about 90% of what you say. The one big issue here is my skillet is not bottom gated, nor are any of the others I've seen shared online. The first...

Re: Lets play Dougs favorite game......

So... I'm yet another member of this club. I have the exact same skillet with the raised "8" on top of the handle, the small pour spouts, the distinctive handle with rib and reinforcement at the...

Re: Wagner with raised 8?

It's a nice looking piece, but I would be suspicious that it is a recast.

Re: This STINKS!

The shredded paper is only good for hamster bedding if you ask me. I would agree with Doug D., it has to be immobilized in the box. The weight of that piece could easily compress that shredded paper...

Re: This STINKS!

That really sucks. Doug has really good primer on how to pack and ship CI somewhere on this site. A link should be sent to anyone you but CI from on EBay... since this is such a common occurrence....

Re: ID help

The marking does look a little like "3", but the skillet is a lot bigger than any 3 I've seen. It's bigger than the only 4 I have- Griswold LBL. One other thing I forgot to add was that the handle is...

ID help

I picked up this nifty little skillet at an estate sale a couple of weeks ago for $7. It was pretty well covered with gunk, so I had no idea what I was really getting, but guessed it might be a...

Re: Need an idea

The way I see it... I'm 36 years old, so I've only got about another 50 years (if I'm lucky), so I should be your ideal candidate. I live in AL... which is just a hop, skip, and a jump from GA... and...

Re: Is this a pre-Lodge?

Doug, do you have any guess or estimation on the approximate date range?

Re: Is this a pre-Lodge?

You want me to give away my secret hunting grounds?

Only kidding... I have no secrets.

Honestly, there probably aren't too many places I haven't checked out yet... as far as the usual suspects...

Re: Is this a pre-Lodge?

I have the exact same skillet, but yours was a much better bargain than mine. ;) As a native Tennessean, I'm a big fan of Lodge... so I paid $25 for mine when I found it in an antique shop... that's...

Re: Is this pan valuable?

Pretty decent deal. The skillet looks weathered to me (not fire damaged)... like it got left out in the rain or maybe left in a sink/tub soaking too long. It still looks ok now, but that kind of rust...

Re: Website about BSR

No doubt the unmarked ID page here at CIC is more thorough... I just happened to find the video on youtube and Modemac's website first. So... I did learn more here, but for me it's all been a...

Re: Website about BSR

I think I learned most of what I know on identifying BSR from that site and videos on Youtube from the same guy. Search for "Cast Iron Chaos" on Youtube and you'll find his video on identifying...

Re: Dating LODGE 3 Notch Pieces

I have a #8 three notch that I believe dates from the late '40s to early '50s based on family history, and it actually isn't nearly as heavy as modern Lodge or some of the other vintage Lodge that I...

Re: Lodge wildlife skillets - Dog, bass, duck, deer

The bass skillet routinely sells for about $75 by itself on Ebay.

I've seen a new in box set of 2, the bass and duck only, sell for over $200 on Ebay.

I can only imagine all four together would...

Re: Hammered lid DO

Interesting theory... but I would blame the spread of "Doomsday Preppers" culture before I would blame the Condors. I don't live anywhere near the geographical range of CA Condors, nor do I live...

Re: Unusual Markings on BSR #5?

It is a very nice looking "7"... which I assume is easier to draw by hand than an 8... those always look a little asymmetrical on the ones I've seen. Doug, you would agree that this 7 in question...

Re: Performance Differences, Old vs New Griz

The pre-auto BSR are pretty solid... maybe a little lighter than the automated stuff, but not by much.

Re: Performance Differences, Old vs New Griz

Ted, an older Erie might be slightly thinner than a small logo Gris, but I believe (someone correct me if I'm wrong here) you would see a much greater difference between a small logo Gris and a Lodge...
