Re: Bogus Griswold #4?

Thanks, Doug. I see other admonishments on the internet about dropping skillets, and they feature photos of broken handles that look just like mine.

Bogus Griswold #4?

My favorite skillet, for its size anyway, is a large slant logo Griswold #4 I bought on ebay for about $90, I think. It came in last year, well packed and looking beautiful, from a guy and his son...

Re: Struggling to Get That Teflon Surface

Well, I have some positive news on my trusty #5. I heated olive oil in it and then poured in two beaten eggs when it got pretty hot.

I warmed some mushrooms over on the side of the same pan as...

Re: Struggling to Get That Teflon Surface

I actually use your 1/4" of boiling water for about a minute every time I cook bacon, softly rubbing the pan with a rubber spatula in ever direction. It comes out wicked clean, and gets shiny again...

Re: Struggling to Get That Teflon Surface

Thanks.

Not all Scotch pads are alike. They come in about 7 different colors, and each is a different grit. The common green is, I agree, too harsh, but the blue is more like a plastic Tuffy. ...

Struggling to Get That Teflon Surface

Hello everyone, I've been away for a while, but am checking in to report that I've been using my #5, large cross Griswold very regularly for months now, bacon only, no acidic food, and the cooking...

Re: My Collection is Complete

Thanks for viewing and posting, fellows. Good luck with your own collections!

As for me, it's time to stop polishing the cast iron and serve dinner!

My Collection is Complete

Here are my large logo Griswolds, stove/oven ready, 3,4,5,6,7, and 8. I probably should get a Griswold cornbread pan, but as far as skillets, I'm good. Rarely use the #8, and so no need for a 9 or...

Open Faced Grilled Cheese

May be a contradiction in terms, but I've taken to making G. cheese sandwiches with one piece of bread, as I'm counting calories.

I take my Griswold #3, melt a pat of butter/canola spread in the...

Re: Grill Cheese Help !

I want to be sure my cheese melts without the bread burning, so I cheat by starting a piece of bread, with cheese on top, in a toaster oven. Another way I cheat is to put buttered but untested bread...

Re: From God's Hand to My Mouth

Okay, thanks, but my point was that the garlic darkens in stainless too. Mine does, anyway.

Re: From God's Hand to My Mouth

Follow up: I confessed in the OP that the cast iron had turned my garlic gray.

Well... today I made the same dish in stainless steel and noticed that the garlic again looked a little gray,...

Re: From God's Hand to My Mouth

You know Eldon, I feel stronger already!

I may bake spinach in CI someday, but no more steaming!

From God's Hand to My Mouth

Montage of spinach from my garden to plate. You wash the spinach and throw it without drying it into the skillet with oil and garlic. Cooks in the residual water from washing. Cover and steam for...

Re: No-knead Pan Pizza (1st Attempt)

First, I love those heating elements on the stove. But why would tomato sauce on the top of the pizza compromise the seasoning on the skillet anyway? Perhaps it was the oil in the dough that improved...

Re: Elation Turns to Disappointment

It's okay. If I found a Kentucky long rifle, I wouldn't care if it had a crack in the barrel. Ain't perfect, but what is?

Re: I Bring Home a Cripple

"Casting shift"! That's what the seller claimed. I thought he was playing me a little bit, and I didn't really mind.

Thanks for clearing that up, though.

Of course, you have to take my word...

Cool Re: I Bring Home a Cripple

This guy who sold me the #3 today used a similar term ... A casting something ....

I'll cook an egg tomorrow and see if it explodes, LOL. If you don't hear from me again, that's what happened!

Re: Todays Finds

I've bought a few Wagners that looked much like yours. It'll clean up great in a lye bath.

That must be a very old #3.

Good find.

I Bring Home a Cripple

I found the pan of my dreams today at the giant Canton festival -- a large logo Griswold #4 in very good condition. Unfortunately the seller wanted $140 and I would have passed at $70.

So instead...
