Re: An Interesting Question....

Hey, if a child isn't going hungry and has clothes to wear, why give a rip what other people think and say about the price you pay for a piece.

Re: Slight Wobbles, Yay or Nay?

Most times I've seen a wobbler, the center of the piece is high, AND, the outer edge is the piece doesn't sit flat on a flat surface. Whereas, with a spinner, the center of the piece is lower than...

Re: Estate Sale Finds: Griswold #2 and Crescent Ozark #8 Fryer

Nice find. You won't see me being that lucky. My grandfather used a small Griswold as an ashtray at the kitchen table(LOL)...don't know what ever happened to it.

Re: Slight Wobbles, Yay or Nay?

I'm a user, not a collector. A wobbler I'll probably pass on. On the other hand, if I find a spinner, I'll use my 6 inch metal rule to see how much of a gap there is in the center of the skillet....

Re: What Brand Do You Collect And Why?

I don't collect, but would like to find a few more Wagners. Wouldn't mind another BSR or two, also.

Re: Give Me Some Input if You Will

Hmmm. And you have used Crisco (I use lard) from the beginning? I have a #6 Griswold that has never really taken a good season. Don't know why. All my other CI--Griswold, Wagner, BSR--have seasoned...

Re: Give Me Some Input if You Will

So, do you clean with water to get the crusty stuff out of the skillet before applying a coat of oil, or are you wiping as much crusty stuff out of the pan and oiling over what crusty stuff remains?...

Need Input on Lead Testing.

I acquired a couple pieces from a person who stripped and seasoned the skillets, used them for a while, but lost interest in CI. Problem is, the pieces were not tested for lead.

Couple question:...

Re: Flaxseed Oil

Oh, yeah, the magic number was six when I tried it. Are you going to use it or hang it?

Re: Flaxseed Oil

How many layers do you have now? Are you going to use them or are they just for display? After 2-3 layers I'd just cook with them, they'll blacken up with usage...then flake. LOL

Why 3's and Not 4's?

The other thread on 4's got me thinking as to why 3's and not 4's? Why would you need that smaller size in the kitchen? Did stores sell sets of CI that didn't include 4's or 7's skillets? Is there...

Chicken Fryers???

Was it intended that a chicken fryer was to be used as a deep fat fryer or as a high walled skillet so grease wouldn't splatter all over the stove?

Re: Deep Skillets, What’s Your Opinion on Using Them

Yup, I would like to find a good one. Because, cooking for one, a DO is too big.

Re: Bacon Grease???

Sorry, but unless you've found a source for no sugar bacon (some meat markets will make it for you), what you are doing is adding a layer of caramelized sugar and oil. Used lard to season.

Opinions/comments Please

I bought a BSR #5 some time back. Noticed a lighter colored area about the the size of a quarter, only oblong...like it was made by something liquid. After stripping the skillet using easy-off, the...

Stovetop Seasoning?

A few here have mentioned that they apply a coat of oil to the skillet then heat it until it smokes. A question: how long do you keep the heat on the skillet after it starts to smoke?

thanks

Re: Mouse

Why would a person trust where and how a piece was used or stored, I strip, lead test, and re-season every piece of CI I buy.

Lodge #5 Square Griddle

Saw the above in a thrift store this A.M. Marked made in USA. It's the size that a piece of bread would just fit on the surface. Rough surface. Great for grilled cheese. Never seen or heard of this,...

Re: Quality Hierarchy by Brand

For cooking I'm starting to like my BSR's better than my Griswolds, BSR's seems to hold the heat better.

Re: New to Buying Had Some Questions

Facebook also has a site to buy and sell CI. Can't think of the name just now, maybe Iron man or something like that. Prices seem OK, but also have to consider shipping cost.

Baked Potato

I hope no one minds, but I thought the knowledgeable people here could help me out.

I don't seem to be able to bake a decent potato. I don't buy the big bakers, more medium size russets. I poke...
