That looks like gunk as thick as the heat ring.

Re: Griswold Clock

I'm with you on this one Tony.
I have a couple I am going to make clocks out of and they will be the same as yours.
I just like the way it looks better than upside down.

Re: Painted?

Found it in a small run down shop in Montana.
Heavily covered in paint but it just had a good feeling to it.
I'm sure the odds are in the favor of hiding something when it comes to paint, but...

Re: Crisco from a Bottle Vs from a Can

The can is shortening whereas the bottle is an oil.
I would think the smoke point and purity would be the main differences.
The shortening is the way I do all my pans.

Re: My New Find

I'd have bought the lid alone for 10 dollars.
Or any one of those pieces for that matter.

Re: Electrolysis Single Item

I would either cut it in half or thirds so that you have 2 or 3 strips 10 inches tall. That will give you total coverage of the piece you are cleaning.

Re: Electrolysis Single Item

S.S. is another durable option for anodes.
I found 5"x32" s.s. sheet stock scraps at my local scrap yard for about 4 dollars each. They are holding up very well with regular cleaning.

Re: RIP Beloved SOS Tuffy Scrubber

I use the Dawn poly mesh scrubbers.
They come in a three pack and hold up real well with everyday use.

Re: Iron Pricing

This pretty much sums it up for me.
I also have not been collecting long, or as enthusiastically as most on here, but I will say that the only regrets I have so far are not paying the price on a...

Re: Thanks for All the Info

I use a piece of electric fence wire with electrical cable clamps that clamp to a shallow groove I made in the top edge of each anode.
I have three anodes in a 35 gallon barrel.
I think the clamps...

Re: Thanks for All the Info

If you have a scrap yard anywhere nearby, you should be able to find some s.s. at scrap prices.
I recently switched my anodes to 5" x 30" 3/16 s.s. plates and the difference is beyond belief.
The...

Re: Great find! How did you find it?

I get most of my good stuff from antique malls, or small shops during my travels.
I do have a neighbor who buy's truck loads of junk from god knows where that accounts for a growing pile of useless...

Re: "Backwards" Electrolysis on My New Teapot

I was just about ready to ask for advise on how to do this.
When you get it all cleaned up, how will you season it if you are going to use it?
Thanks for posting the pics.

I have a unmarked pan that I can't seem to find in any of the I.D. links on the site.
