A teammate shared this cool read with me (Powerpoint required):

Hey guys,

I made this a while back and wanted to post the procedure so I don't forget it.

Dissolve in large bowl:
1/2 cup warm milk
10g yeast

Mix in:

Re: American Brass and Iron

I like the machined bottom - it's a lot easier to oil than rough raw castings.

Is that a heat ring I see, or is it just dark around the edge?

Re: Stupid, Stupid mess!!

I was wondering how much damage it would cause if that happened. Glad it wasn't a bigger disaster.

Re: Crisco beading on hot cast iron - acting oleophobic

I found a spot of something on the oven grates that is causing this. Whatever it is, it doesn't burn even at 550F - or at least it doesn't solidify. It's almost like watery molasses. No idea who...

Re: Crisco beading on hot cast iron - acting oleophobic

Craig - That's an interesting point. I didn't wire brush this thing, but I have wirebrushed a lodge that I'm giving away. Luckily I didn't get any silver left behind. I got more layers to stick by...

Re: Crisco beading on hot cast iron - acting oleophobic

The pan in question is my AB&I machined-bottom #15.

I did another layer of seasoning, the AB&I is totally back to...

Re: Crisco beading on hot cast iron - acting oleophobic

Previous layer of crisco already baked dry. I did let the pan did cool completely (below the melting point of Crisco), and it smeared on as would be expected, but I could still see it trying to let...

Re: Tip: How to recover your post after "Your submission could not be processed"

Is that on mobile? I've noticed a lot of the newer forums have some annoying behavior like that, where it takes over your back button.

The message I posted comes from leaving your reply open for...

Crisco beading on hot cast iron - acting oleophobic

Have you guys ever seen anything like this?

https://youtu.be/Q7SPmwIM3ZA

The melted crisco is beading away from the surface of the pan. It almost looks like I'm spreading water instead of oil,...

Re: Good day!

Haha, that was my favorite after-school meal for ages. My mom had a tiny non-stick T-Fal that I would use to fry an egg, brown a turkey sausage patty, and eat my english muffin breakfast sandwich on...

Nice.

I was actually going to post in your other thread that I almost have more fun doing electrolysis and experimenting with seasonings than actually hunting for iron. I just want to build my...

Re: Bee's wax

lol good story. I was definitely impressed when I fried an egg in cast iron for the first time. Unfortunately this pan is WAY too big for any burner on my stove, so I can't really fry an egg on it!...

Re: Bee's wax

Thanks JCameron for the tip! This stuff is amazing! Two coats of beeswax looks nicer than 8 coats of flaxseed *shudder*

For anyone doing this, I'd say to be careful who you buy from. I found a lot...

Re: Weak Piranha Etch

Hm... What kind of beeswax do you use? Do you melt it then smear it on, like Crisco? I can handle Crisco's melting point temperatures, but melted wax sounds painful.

Locally, I've found beeswax...

Yeah, I'm learning the flaxseed oil lesson the hard way... on EVERY single one of my pans. I seasoned all 6 pieces I own before cooking in one for the first time...

How's that Finex? Is it weird cooking on it since they machined a circle in the center and not the entire inside?
