Re: Pocasset No. 10 8 Gallon

Don't have a lot of research data "books" but what few I do have would indicate your piece was probably made between 1860-1880 based entirely on the pot ears. Pocasset Iron Works made a lot of tea...

Re: Pocasset No. 10 8 Gallon

Here's some literature on the manufacturer in case you haven't already searched it. Hard to put prices on some of these old C.I. pieces plus there's no photo provided so not knowing the shape it's in...

Re: Help with ID

Yep. It's a BSR red mountain (older style) but its a very good pan. Clean it and use it. You won't be sorry.
Should have added: Per the MODEMAC web site they were probably produced in the late...

Friday/Saturday Flea Market Finds

Picked up a few collectables over the weekend. They were so filthy I had to soak them in lye overnight just to get a halfway picture of them. Shown are: Lodge #10 Griddle-1950's, Volrath 11" Dia....

Seasoned Weekend Pic's

Here are the seasoned pieces we picked up this past weekend at the swap-meet and a yard sale close by the house.
That flat #8 lid has about 5/8" curvature to it which is basically flat. Still...

Re: Weekend Finds and an Unknown Pan

Good pickin Kev....I'm going to guess the skillet in question may be a Wagner possibly around the 1924 era. Once you get it cleaned up let us know if there are any I.D. marks found other than the 8...

Re: Cracked in Lid

I tried somewhat to answer this question on your post in the introduction page.

Hi Ken. Without a picture to assess the size and length of those cracks it would be hard to give an honest answer....

Re: New in Williamsburg

Hi Ken. Without a picture to assess the size and length of those cracks it would be hard to give an honest answer. Assuming that there will be continued use of hot coals placed on the lid it may be...

Re: 3 Notch Lodge #4 with Raised '4' Molders Mark at 6

When you go to the CIC home page and click on the drop-downs (Cast Iron Collecting) and open "Numbers & Letters" there you will find info regarding your question. I have several pieces that have both...

Re: Iron Mountain DO & Cover

Thanks...I'll re-check once out of the lye to make sure if they're any hidden numbers covered by the crud. Just a guess but the slope of the dome is less than 1/2" so there's not much of one.

Iron Mountain DO & Cover

Went back to the swap meet early this morning since I ran short of time yesterday and found this piece hiding on a back table. It's an Iron Mountain 1036 per the BB but the cover is only marked with...

Re: Gate Marked Oval Griddle

Rob....Hate to sound argumentative about your decision that it's "Definitely" a sad iron heater without having documentation to do so. I own/have several Griswold "griddles" oval shaped and...

Re: Potassium Hydroxide?

Realize this is an old post thus the link I'm attaching may or may not be of any use. Since (Lye) is a key ingredient used in making paper from wood pulp I would think there would be some sort of...

Re: Griswold 16 Griddle

I'll make a wild guess based on the P/N of 743 and the slant logo that it's probably around 1910- 1920 for an estimated circ. date. As for the rarity... not sure but it's one that you don't see every...

Re: More Info on 2 Griswold Pans

There's abundant information on this web site that goes into a lot of detail regarding circ era, explanation of markings (numbers & letters) how to clean and season, etc. If you're just getting into...

Re: Griswold Aebleskiver # 31 P/n 963 Rarity?

It was late last night when I looked in the BB and typed in the wrong PN (363). Sorry about that. Looks like it will clean up nicely. I would use about a 50/50 solution of vinegar and water to get...

Re: Griswold Aebleskiver # 31 P/n 963 Rarity?

If it's marked "GRISWOLD NO 31" 363 " I would say it's worth the $45 asking price, Circ. date 1900-1930's, BB price has it at $150-$200 and assuming it is in very good condition I would jump on it.

Re: Gate Marked Oval Griddle

Looks like something that would set on a BSR Sportsman Grill but the resemblance stops there. The Portland Stove Co. in Maine made some pieces that married up to the Sportsman grill but they were not...

Re: Cleaning a Plated Skillet

If it were mine I would start by putting it in the lye tank and not be in any hurry to take it out. After a long soaking I would use a fine steel wool to see what all comes off and then assess...
