I believe griswold made 'deep skillets' at least in the early 'erie' time frame up to size 12... the bigger ones were marketed as doughnut fryers.

ah... good point about the difference in markings between the two (size on the lid and no catalog number and catalog number on the bottom but no size.)... that makes sense... I was kind of surprised...

got this on sunday and got both parts cleaned and seasoned this morning... it wasn't in bad shape but was covered with light surface rust from sitting in a shed for about 20 years. Is it a mismatch?...

my understanding of the term 'galvanized' is that it is always a 'zinc' coating... there are different methods of doing it, but it seems to always involve zinc.

I wouldn't call that #7 a SMS... it has none of the characteristics of the usual SMS. looks like an early lodge to me with the raised size on the handle and raised molder's mark on the bottom.

not bad. I couldn't just twist them by hand. I started them moving by putting a nail set against the end of the spring and hit it a few times... after about a quarter turn of doing that to slowly...
