Re: What's Your Best Find That You Didn't Know What It Was Until You Cleaned It?

I purchased 2 skillets that were so covered in crud I had no idea what they were. One turned out to be a Wagner Ware 1058 K. No sulfur pitting and flat. The other was a Puritan 8 F. Also had no...

Re: Should I Be Worried About Lead?

When I buy a piece of cast iron, I never know the history. So I clean them to bare metal and season them and cease to worry about them.

Re: Bacon & Eggs

While I have cooked eggs in my CI skillet after cooking the bacon, I prefer to use two pans. I use a bacon press because I like my bacon evenly cooked. When I pull the press off the bacon, I hold...

Re: Couple of Quick Questions About a Lye Tank

I drop each one in the tank and make sure they are covered. Usually it is only one at a time....but that is only because that is all I have to clean.

Re: E-Tank and Lye Tank evaporation

Well I added 10 to 15 gallons to both the E-tank any lye tank yesterday afternoon. I must admit it was pretty disgusting. The E-tank clouded up instantly, but I knew it would all settle by morning....

Wish I could find a place like that! Even if I didn't buy anything, it would be a great way to spend the day.

E-Tank and Lye Tank evaporation

How do you handle evaporation in your e-tank and lye tank? Is it just water that evaporates, or do you need to add sodium carbonate or lye when you add more water to the tanks?

Re: How soon after de-rusting to season

If you donít think the paper towels will get all the moisture off your skillet, put it on your stove over medium heat for a minute or so and then apply the oil. This will keep the cast iron from...

Never heard of the 'sous vide method'. It does look interesting after reading more about it. The best part about yours is it is finished in your CI skillet. Because I love a good sear on my...

Cracks can propagate in most materials even if you donít use them. They can propagate even faster in use. If you like the griddle and want to use it, what will you lose? I say use it. If what you...
