Re: What Not to Cook in CI?
When I cook meats down for a broth, (ox tails for example) I simply use what remains to cook my rice in. All that seasoning in the rice......mmmmm!

Re: Warped Griswold No 12

Re: What Not to Cook in CI?
I don't think any cooking oil can remove other cooking oil. I cook whatever I want in mine. I make chilli, pasta sauce, boil rice (hot salty water oh no!), boil beans (more hot salty water oh my!)...

Re: BS&R or Lodge
That's one of the nicest mystery pans I've seen. I don't know who made it, nothing we've ever seen from Lodge or BSR for certain. I'd say definitely a match, those eights are identical. Very nice...

Re: #5 Lodge Dutch Oven
If it's a Lodge with spout covers it's a skillet lid. Can you e-mail a picture and I'll post it for you?

Re: BS&R or Lodge
Just use the mobile app, works great, no stupid links, no oversize pics, no Admins bothering you. This is the only place besides OfferUp that makes using your phone easier than a desktop.

Re: Broken CI, what to do?
Place it close to where you're cleaning the new one. Place a hammer close by. Every time you get aggravated with the new one, hit it with the hammer. This will make you feel better without...

Re: Dilluting Lye Bath
I have two 20 gallon plastic storage totes, each with 15 gallons of water. I shoved one too many pieces in one and a handle cracked through the side. It was the newest of the two, completely due to...

Re: Dilluting Lye Bath
Should be fine already then. My tank busted (15 gallons of water with 5lb of lye and 1lb of sludge) and it didn't stain concrete or kill any grass.

How are you disposing? Drain to a treatment plant? Drain to a septic tank? Poured on the ground?

Re: Bacon Grease???
Semantics. Initial seasoning = protective layers "baked on" above the smoke point of the oil for 45 minutes to an hour. Seasoning from use = cooking. Very rarely are you cooking at 400 to 500...

Re: Identification Help
Three notch Lodge #5 made in the '40s to '50s. Affectionally known as a "blob" skillet due to the shift identifier above the size.

Re: Griswold #6 Reveal
That won't effect it's use and the "pretty" part looks good for display if you so desire!
