Re: Curiosity Question..( WAPAK )
The assumption was based on the OP having previously identified himself several times as a "Wapak guy", and that as such he would already have been aware of the Indian medallion skillets.

Re: Curiosity Question..( WAPAK )
The OP is talking about Wapak 3s other than the Indian head medallion skillets which all have heat rings. My comment about Wapak being notorious for "borrowing" other makers' pans for pattern...

Re: Curiosity Question..( WAPAK )
While selling or giving the competition patterns are both extremely unlikely, making pans from stolen patterns would be unfathomably foolish, especially if you put your name on them.

Re: Curiosity Question..( WAPAK )
Pattern creation involved the carving of a pan first in wood (and sometimes other materials), then from it creating a master in brass to which runners and gates were added to create the aluminum...

Re: Curiosity Question..( WAPAK )
Wapak, being notorious for "borrowing" other makers' pans for its patterns, was probably content with the Wagner #3s made just down the road that they used to make theirs. And, since Wagner only made...

Re: Oneta with Backwards 'N'? (#9)
As common as every skillet cast using that error-containing pattern. Likely, as with many Wapak pans, that this one used an early Victor (by Griswold) as the basis for a pattern. It appears that...

Re: Staining?
Steel wool and straight vinegar might be more effective. Just don't leave it sitting with the vinegar on it. Evapo-Rust is also effective on stains where rust was once active.

A Slant Erie HR version and a LBL smooth bottom appear in recent eBay listings. A Slant EPU HR version was also made. Wood handle Slant Erie smooth bottoms were made in aluminum. All are pretty...

Re: Lye Strength of Solution Question
To be clear, if what he gives you is a 10:1 solution, it's 4 times the strength used for CI cleaning, and needs to be handled with eye and skin protection.

Re: Lye Strength of Solution Question
My high school chemistry skills are pretty rusty (since I only took physics), but the recommended solution of 1 lb. to five gallons of water is roughly a 2.5% solution whereas yours is either 9 or...

Re: Wagner Skillet Assistance
The stylized logo (with Sidney -O-) was in use (on pans) ~ 1922-1959, but pieces with it but no catalog number fall in a far shorter time frame. This pan would be more like 1922-1924.

Re: Bsr (7) 8-B Chicken Fryer
IIRC, something about them altering sizes slightly so that patterns would fit "two up" on a single match plate for automated molding. Doubled production output with no extra molding cost.

Re: Griswold Camp Oven Question
They appear to be the same in both books. One even has the listings twice for some unknown reason. If only purchasing one book at a time, the BB is recommended to get first.

If the books show a photo of a piece, the caption will include its p/n. If additional sizes are listed in the caption, values are given, but not p/ns. Both books have appendices of pattern numbers...

Re: Griswold Camp Oven Question
It appears that 8-11 were offered in the early 1910s both with and without a bail handle. Later, in the 1920s, the non-bail handled option was dropped, and the range expanded to 8-13, cover optional....

Ran across one in central IL about 6 or 7 yrs ago. Was a spinner so I left it behind. Probably shouldn't have; haven't seen one since.

Re: Electrolysis Tank - Newbie!
