Re: BSR?

Interesting. I'll look more closely to see if there is any sign of an arc Lodge ghost. In that case, maybe an arc Lodge pan or pattern modified to become new pattern for this pan?

Re: What Brand Do You Collect And Why?

What I enjoy using the most and what I seek out are bottom gated pans, especially if marked or unusual.

Re: BSR?

Thanks Doug. So maybe the size closer to 6 o'clock rather than 12, and the similarity to a BSR handle are anomalies on a Lodge?

Re: BSR?

Sean - I initially thought Lodge, but the handle is steering me towards BSR. Curious to see what others say.

BSR?

Any thoughts on this? I assume BSR because of the handle, and location of the size on the bottom (sort of). But the single notch and large spouts say older Lodge to me. Lodge or BSR, and what time...

Re: N Waterman Gem Pans

Thank you - to be more precise, when did the gem pans stop being marked N Waterman?

N Waterman Gem Pans

What is the date range for gem pans marked N Waterman? When R&E got the patents in 1866, did they continue marking Waterman, or change over to R&E?

Re: Gem Pan with Sprue and Gate Mark

Thanks Doug. Didn't occur to me that the gate might be PART of the sprue.

Gem Pan with Sprue and Gate Mark

Any thoughts on the origins of this? Appears to be a sprue mark on top of a gate mark, which leads me to think it may be a re-cast of a gated piece. Nice casting, very crisp. Also, if a re-cast,...

Re: Lodge DO #12 Lid

Well, I thought it was a Lodge, based on the handle, but it doesn't have the grid of pointed tips on the underside like every other Lodge lid I've seen. So now I'm wondering about Date AND...

Lodge DO #12 Lid

This looks Lodge to me - any ideas on date range? When did they start adding the name to the lid?

Re: Unmarked Wagner Montgomery Wards?

So you think this would fall into the early "Unmarked Wagner" category, maybe 1930's (based on the OHR)?

Re: Unknown #5 to ID

Sorry I didn't check this post before I added mine (unmarked Montgomery Wards). Same skillet, and I'm guessing c.1930's. That sound about right to you Doug?

Unmarked Wagner Montgomery Wards?

Need some help on this unmarked pan. Based on the red book, the only Wagner I could find with this handle style and OHR was the Montgomery Wards pan made in the 30's. Did they make an unmarked...

Josh - you might find something about Savory or Jonns in the Foundry Data Base in the Resources tab on this website.

Re: Bellflower handle iron

Beautiful. Ornate handle, bottom gate, single spout - I'm guessing the folks who know a lot about that type of skillet would put it's date around 1870-1880, give or take a decade.

Re: 1800's? tulip handle cast iron skillet

My 2 cents: First, if in any way you can do without the money, keep it. It came from your Grandmother, so no need to worry about what may have been cooked in it, and in my opinion, no need to make...

Re: Scrap yard stack

I have one of the smooth bottom #5 BSR skillets. Nice big pour spouts, very smooth cooking surface, no heat ring, typical BSR handle.

Re: CI Bread Pans?

I use a bottom-gated, unidentifiable, #7 skillet, with the no-knead bread recipe located in the recipe section of this site. Probably made 300 loaves of "Artisan" bread so far, and they have been...

Re: Your top 4 "users"

Guess it would have to be:

Griswold LBL #5 (my cornbread pan)
Bottom Gated #7 (for no-knead bread)
Bottom Gated #8 (my egg pan)
Erie 2nd Series #9 (my default "wok")

Re: Cast Iron Christmas anyone?

I gave my step son his first c.i. - a #6 Good Health Skillet. And I gave a good friend of ours her first as well, a LBL #8 and a single notch Lodge #6.
