Re: Griswold Clock

Yep, just like every one that hangs by a handle that isn't made into a clock.

Re: Griswold Clock

I like it, but I would've put the XII on the handle side and numbered from there since I would hang it by the handle.

Re: Cast Iron Tobacco Cutter

Sorry, no help on the horseshoe(s) or age of the cutter. I see tobacco cutters for sale once in a while, but have never really been interested enough to look into them and don't really have anywhere...

Re: Cast Iron Tobacco Cutter

Nice old tobacco cutter. I'd clean it up exactly as you described. Sounds like a neat old store.

Re: New "Collector"-- Advice on My First Finds?

The Wagner is definitely the more collectible, but if I were trying to decide on "cookability" I'd use both of the #8s several times and decide which I'd want to keep. FWIW, my primary skillet is a...

Re: What Did I Just Buy?

As mentioned earlier, I'd bet a dollar to a doughnut that's aluminum. Do not put it in a lye bath.

Re: Peerless 2 Burner

Looks like you need to adjust your air shutters on your burners. Those flames are way too tall and way too yellow. The flames should be short and blue with just a hint of yellow at the ends like...

Re: Peerless 2 Burner

Should be able to pick up the fittings at any hardware store or RV place as they're all quite common pieces.

Re: Alternate Seasoning or Preservation Method?

Take a look at this link. Might give you an idea of how to do it. Just an FYI, your large pot is a ham boiler.

Re: Lye Bath. Other Uses

Won't hurt SS, but definitely do not put aluminum in it!

Re: Butcher Kettle Lid

Aluminum will probably be your least expensive option unless you just want to use some plywood. Stainless steel may be the best choice, but it's expensive. How big is the kettle? Why do you want to...

Re: To Dry Or Not To Dry?

I only hand dry. Never had a problem with rust, but my skillets and pots are well seasoned.

Re: What is the Best Way to Season a Butchering Kettle

Well, I can't say there is absolutely no chance, but I seriously doubt it. When I bought this place years ago, the owners left this big old cauldron in the front yard. It had a big hole drilled in...

Re: What is the Best Way to Season a Butchering Kettle

This is probably about the best way I've seen to do a large cauldron. If you don't have a gas burner or hoist system, you can use cinder blocks to get the pot up on and build a low fire under the...

Re: Looks Like a Blacklock #8

It certainly may be a Lodge, but it's nowhere near what a purported Blacklock is supposed to look like.

Re: Cleaning Cast Iron Skillets Purchased Online

While frowned upon here, I've cleaned many pieces of CI in the oven on the self cleaning cycle with no damage to the CI or the oven. The only downside to using the SCO repeatedly is damage to the...

Re: Cooking Fish in C.I. Leave a Fish Aftertaste?

I've never noticed a fishy aftertaste in other foods I've cooked in CI that I've used previously for fried fish.

Re: What Not to Cook in CI?

I don't cook rice or cheese dishes in my cast iron. (Grilled cheese sandwiches don't count as a cheese dishes!)

Re: Making Bbq Hash

Want to give up your hash recipe? I'm from SC, too, and have been looking for one. (If your recipe contains liver, just leave that part of the recipe out. I don't do hash with liver in it.)
