Lead in Cast Iron

I recently had a buyer do a lead test on a pan. Is this a good idea? Should I as a buyer start doing that? Is it even a good test if there is still crud in the pan? Is there other tell tale signs...

Doug, instead of it being a ghost mark, could it be that the plating material is thick enough to "fill in" the Favorite insignia? Or isn't it that thick?

The #5 was the worst. Lots of soaking in lye, scrubbing, back to soaking, back to scrubbing, etc.
