Re: Unmarked ID

Anyone? There's a guy claiming it's Vollrath but he says a lot of questionable stuff and I trust this site to have real authority, keep bragging about the level of expertise among the members here....

Unmarked ID

Hello everybody,

Any help with this one, ID and time period? I can't find anything that matches this on the unmarked CI page of the main site. My best guess is something from Wagner but I don't...

Re: Chef Skillet BSR?

Chef Skillet came out in the '70s as BSR explored the capabilities of DISA automation. In general I've found BSR markings of that era to be very inconsistent; you may have "marking A", "marking B",...

Re: Broken CI, what to do?

Yeah I think it's the first one of my threads in this forum that's been zombied, back from the dead.

But though I in general agree with the common convention that it's in poor taste to bump dead...

Re: Deep Skillets, What’s Your Opinion on Using Them

Like others, I mostly use mine as a high-sided skillet to reduce splatter mess.

Re: Clean or Not to Clean?

I know what you mean, I had the same reaction when I first started getting into cast iron - many other collectibles lose value if you clean them up. But not these, as long as you don't damage them...

Re: Help with Identity and Purpose Needed

Their practicality depends on how you use them. They're meant to go over a burner in the center of the table and you grill thin slices of meat and vegetables on them, served directly to the diner's...

Re: Did I Destroy My Pans?

Back when I was a newbie and didn't know better I did some pans in the SCO too. Luckily they came through it okay; they weren't the most delicate pieces so perhaps that helped avoid heat warping. ...

Re: Griddle

The healthier thing is really more of a myth but man does that bring me back to my old burger flippin' and short order days a long time ago in a galaxy far far away.

That much workspace is like an...

Re: Storage Advice?

Edgar's sage advice is best for long-term storage, if that's the question you were asking.

If you're asking about regular storage between uses, no need to overthink it. The paper towel thing is...

Re: Heat Before Seasoning

I think in the context of heating a pan that's already completely dry prior to applying the seasoning oil, it depends on what oil/fat you're using to season. Something that's solid at room...

Re: Terstegge Gohmann & Co. Skillet

Gate marked spider skillets like that are typically from the 1800s IIRC.

Re: Cleaning a Cast Iron Clock

I'd be curious as to how the numbers are "silver" looking to begin with. It looks like it was just ground down to bare metal but if that was the case then the exposed parts would have rusted over...
