Crisco is almost a universal standard for reliable oven seasoning. I used home rendered lard, then switched to Crisco, mostly because I'd rather use my pork bellies to make bacon :evil:

I bought a Griswold #8 with a matching lid - that is enameled, so it's not unheard of. Sometimes it's very difficult to see any markings through the enameling, depending on the thickness.

That's actually a number #9. Gatemarking sometimes indicates early 1900's or earlier, but no guarantee. It's almost impossible to assign a foundry to a piece like that - Doug might have more insight.

The lid arrived, it's fully enameled, not sure how rare of a lid this is, but I can definitely say that it fits and it's a Griswold:

Well, the seller provided two more pictures, but it's pretty much impossible to make out anything, figure if they're certain it's a #8, it might be worth buying......
